Naaharbagh is a labour of love of Raavi, a city born girl, who has metamorphosed into a jungle girl. She has been coming to this area since she was a six months old baby. Since a very early age she has been living in close proximity to wildlife in Bahaargunj, her jungle farmhouse, and therefore understands the nuances of wildlife conservation and its importance.
She embarked on this adventurous journey with the active encouragement of Ashok and Kirti, her parents and Viny and Bhavna of Ken River Lodge who are her foster parents. Bahaargunj is situated right across the Ken River in the middle of Panna Tiger Reserve where Raavi lives with Ginger, her pet dog. Bahaargunj became like a nursery, school and college for Raavi to learn the ways of the Indian jungle and its peculiarities.
Under Raavi's guidance, Naaharbagh is a strong proponent of ‘Farm to Table’ concept and maintains its extensive in- house vegetable garden. It also offers multi cuisine meals on a fixed menu along with a choice of local Bundelkhandi cuisine. Naaharbagh encourages its guests to participate in any ongoing farming activity or to learn the art of cooking on a wood chulha in the rural way. What with lazy breakfasts, sun kissed afternoons and alfresco dinners--- everything is designed to take your breath away.
Naaharbagh is very conscious of the impact that it is having on the surrounding area and environment. From creating local employment to promoting local food, art and culture, all activities are designed to have a positive impact on the local population. That is why we encourage our guests to dress in culturally appropriate attire and ask the locals before taking their pictures. Local masons, artisans and locally available building materials of Bundelkhand have been used in the making of Naaharbagh.
